Our Practice

Committed to excellence in dental care

A warm welcome to Old Square Dental Practice. We aim to deliver the highest level of patient satisfaction with the services and products that we provide. Our practice has undergone a major transformation during the Covid pandemic, and we are proud of our team and patients supporting us throughout these challenging times.

There are unfortunately many barriers to dentistry. With our empathic, gentle and patient centred approach, we hope to remove these barriers, and build a long standing rapport with our patients. Prevention is key when it comes to all patients. It is so important to follow the correct guidance at home, and we hope to educate our patients with the correct knowledge and tools.  Our team strive to build an honest bond with each patient, not only treating patients once dental disease is diagnosed, but educating them with the skills and know-how to help improve and maintain their oral health in between regular routine appointments.

Our warm and friendly team hope to make your experience as stress free and comfortable as possible. Each patient will have a treatment plan tailored to their individual needs. Sometimes referral via NHS or Private care pathways may be required, which we will accommodate where appropriate. Each patient will be given all treatment options available, with costs explained, in order for them to make an appropriate informed decision.

Brushing Teeth

Children's Dental Health

Happy little teeth = Happy little people

  • The NHS provides free dental services for children and young people up to the age of 18.

  • Children should visit the dentist when their first milk teeth appear, or if there are any concerns prior to this.

  • Children can become familiar with our environment and get to know our team. We can advise you on how to prevent decay and identify any oral health problems at an early stage.

  • Simply visiting us to see friendly faces, have a play in the chair and have a chat about oral health to put both parent and child at ease, can be a positive experience to build on.

  • Sometimes it takes time and patience to lie in the chair and get to the open mouth “roar like a lion!” That is all part of normal development! The sooner we start dental visits, the better.

  • When you visit the dentist, we can all be positive about it and make the trip fun. This will help stop your child worrying about future visits.

  • Bring your child for regular check ups, as we advise. It is usually 6 months, however some children may need more regular assessments.

  • Children can be prepared for their visits with help from Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee dental episodes- these can be found on YouTube.

Super Hero Kids

Hints and Tips for Little Teeth:

Even Superheroes brush their teeth!

  • It’s only a smear, not ear to ear with toothpaste!

  • Brush morning and night with an age appropriate fluoride toothpaste.

  • Make it fun! Brush to music, in the bath, which ever way you can for two minutes. Make sure to have a method to brush each surface of each tooth.

  • With sugar, it’s not just the amount, but the frequency. Restrict sugars to mealtimes only, watch out for those “no added” or hidden sugars too. If you’re ever in doubt, make a food and drink diary of everything you have over three days, and bring it to us. We’re here to help you.

  • Spit out excess toothpaste after brushing....don't rinse!

The classical risk factors are smoking, high alcohol consumption, and chewing/smokeless tobacco. However, in recent years, the role of human papilloma virus (HPV) is increasingly seen as a major risk factor for head and neck cancer. HPV-associated cancers tend to affect the younger age groups, even with a healthy lifestyle.

Around two in every three (more than 60%) mouth cancers are linked to smoking.

Drinking alcohol to excess increases your risk of mouth cancer.  Alcohol is linked to just under a third (30%) of all mouth cancers.

Smoking and drinking together increases the risk of mouth cancer by up to 30 times.

UK guidelines recommend a maximum of 14 units of alcohol a week for both men and women.
